Tonsillectomy remains a common surgical procedure. The present study compared the effect of Pregabalin and Clonidine on postoperative pain in adult patients undergoing elective tonsillectomy.

The study included 92 patients aged 20 to 50, and randomized them to either clonidine group (C), which received 150 µg of clonidine tablet 90 minutes before surgery, or the pregabalin group (P), which received 300 mg of pregabalin tablet 90 minutes before surgery.

The study found lower mean pain scores and analgesic consumption scores in the pregabalin group than in the clonidine group. It also found a significant difference between the two groups regarding pain score and analgesic consumption. Both groups showed similar Hemodynamic variation.

This study shows that pregabalin reduces postoperative pain and analgesic consumption more effectively than clonidine.
